- Aladdin -
This 1992 film based on the Arabian Nights' fable of Aladdin's brush with the genie of the magic lamp marked the first collaboration with composer Alan Menken and resulted in Tim Rice's first Oscar for best original song.
- The Lion King -
Tim Rice began his association with Disney for this record-breaking 1994 film, soundtrack, and later musical in 1997 -- it was his suggestion that Disney bring Elton John on board as composer.
- Beauty and the Beast -
After its string of successful animated films starting with The Little Mermaid, Disney was keen to branch into the theatrical field, and in 1994 did so with the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast featuring specially written material by Tim Rice.

Based upon the life of Biblical King David, this originally Disney-produced musical with composer Alan Menken premiered in 1997 on Broadway to open Disney's newly-refurbished New Amsterdam theatre.

With the runaway success of The Lion King, it was no surprise that Disney wanted Tim Rice and Elton John to collaborate on another project which took the form of the 1998 direct-to-stage musical based on Verdi's opera about Nubian princess Aida enslaved in Egypt.
